Netwosix Linux Security Advisory #2004-0006 <http://www.netwosix.org>;
=2D -----------------------------------------------------------------------=
=2D-----------

Package name:      apache
Summary: Multiple security vulnerabilities in Apache 2.x
Date:                    2004-03-25
Affected versions:  Netwosix 1.0
                           Netwosix 1.1
***************************************************************************=
*********

=2D -> Package description:
=2D ------------------------
The Apache HTTP Server Project is an effort to develop and maintain an=20
open-source HTTP server for modern operating systems including UNIX and=20
Windows NT. The goal of this project is to provide a secure, efficient and=
=20
extensible server that provides HTTP services in sync with the current HTTP=
=20
standards.

=2D -> Problem description:
=2D ------------------------

Apache before 2.0.49, when using multiple listening sockets on certain=20
platforms, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (blocked ne=
w=20
connections) via a "short-lived connection on a rarely-accessed listening=20
socket."

Apache does not filter terminal escape sequences from its error logs, which=
=20
could make it easier for attackers to insert those sequences into terminal=
=20
emulators containing vulnerabilities related to escape sequences.

Memory leak in ssl_engine_io.c for mod_ssl in Apache 2 before 2.0.49 allows=
=20
remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory consumption) via plai=
n=20
HTTP requests to the SSL port of an SSL-enabled server.

=2D -> Action:
=2D ------------------------
  We recommend that all systems with this package installed be upgraded.
  Please note that if you do not need the functionality provided by this
  package, you may want to remove it from your system.

=2D -> Location:
=2D ---------------------

  You can download the latest version of this package in NEPOTE format from:
  <http://download.netwosix.org/0006/nepote>;

=2D -> Nepote Update (Nepote has been updated with new ports on 21 March 20=
04.
Update your portage tree from http://nepote.netwosix.org, first):
=2D ---------------------

See this instructions to update the port of this package:

        # cd /usr/ports/net/apache
        # rm nepote
        # wget http://download.netwosix.org/0006/nepote
        # sh nepote (to install the new and updated package)

=2D -> About Linux Netwosix:
=2D ---------------------------------
Linux Netwosix is a powerful and optimized Linux distribution for servers
and Network Security related jobs. It can also be used for special operati=
ons
such as penetration testing with its big collection of security oriented
software and sources. It's a light distribution created for the requirements
of every SysAdmin and it's very portable and highly configurable. Our
philosophy is to give greater liberty for configuration to the SysAdmin.
Only in this way can he/she configure a powerful and stable server machine.
Linux Netwosix also has a powerful ports system (Nepote) similar to the xBSD
systems but more flexible and usable.
