Samba FindNextPrintChangeNotify Error Allows Remote Authenticated Users To
Crash smbd
------------------------------------------------------------------------
SUMMARY
<http://www.samba.org/samba> Samba is an Open Source/Free Software suite
that provides seamless file and print services to SMB/CIFS clients.
A Samba client can crash a remote Samba daemon (smbd) under certain
conditions by the use of FindNextPrintChangeNotify.
DETAILS
Vulnerable Systems:
* Samba versions prior to 3.0.6 and 2.2.11
Immune Systems:
* Samba version 3.0.6 and 2.2.11
The vendor reported that a remote authenticated user can send a
FindNextPrintChangeNotify() request without having previously sent a
corresponding FindFirstPrintChangeNotify() requeste to cause smbd to
crash. The behaviour can be triggered easily by a Windows XP SP2 client
which apparently does this in certain situations.
The flaw is located in the printer_notify_info() in
'rpc_server/srv_spoolss_nt.c' .
Vendor Status:
The vulnerability was reported to the vendor by Craig Huegen. The vendor
has already issued a new upgrade version which is available from
<http://samba.org/samba/download/> http://samba.org/samba/download/.
