XFree86 3.3 has support for dyamically loading a GLX extansion
module like the PEX and XIE modules. The GLX module, based upon
Mesa, is still in early development and is not part of the 3.3
package. To get involved in the development:
> This is still very early alpha, it is intended for serious
developmental testers who have joined the XFree86-3d mail
list. There is no support mechanism beyond the mail list
and the developers don't have time for hand-holding.

and in particular should be familiar with the standard
OpenGL libraries, how the Mesa libraries correspond, and
how to switch between libraries in a mixed OpenGL and
Mesa environment.

a lot of work to do to get the basic software underpinnings
in place.

XFree86-3d mail list, not directly to the developers.
Except for major milestones, future releases will be
announced only to the mail list.
To add yourself to the mail list send mail to
[email protected], with "subscribe xfree86-3d" in
the message body.
> The current release is version 0.7 and is available as
source, which requires the XFree86 3.3 and Mesa 2.2 source
trees to build, and as an Linux ELF module for the libc 5
version of XFree86 3.3. Volunteers are needed to build modules
for other XFree86 platforms. To download see:

> For client programs the GLX package only includes libGL and
a couple of header files. You will need to install Mesa
for other libraries and headers.
