    DESCRIPTION
dtpower is a graphical user interface that enables you to
congifigure the power managment features of your worksta-
tion. These features allow Solaris to save electrical power
by putting one or more hardware components into a state that
uses less power. The trigger for these power transitions is
based on a given device being idle for a certain period of
time. Any device for which the power has been reduced,
automaticlly returns to full power as soon as possible when
         its services are required again.

Help is available by clicking the Help button.

    OPTIONS
-e Show Expanded screen at startup (Show Basic screen is
              the default).

         -geometry widthxheight[+|-]xoffset[+|-]yoffset

Sets both the size and the placement of the dtpower
base frame. You can set the size, the position, or
both. The size values are measured in pixels. The
position values are the number of pixels from the top
or left edge of the screen for plus `+', and bottom or
right edge of the screen for minus `-'.

         -display host:display[.screen]

Sets the name of the X11 server on which to connect.
host is the name or address of the machine on whose
server you have permission to display. display is a
number corresponding to the server on which to display
for that machine, and screen corresponds to the screen
of the server. See reference manual page on xhost(1)
for more details about adding to the permissions list.

    USAGE
dtpower allows you to perform the following tasks:

         Select a predefined power-saving scheme
Choose the power-saving scheme that most closely
matches your preferences. The schemes range from
moderately aggressive to no power management at all. A
moderately aggressive power management scheme is one
that dramatically reduces power and affects more dev-
ices than a less aggressive scheme. The predefined
schemes all use the default idle time to trigger the
              power management.

Change the default idle time for
         all power-manageable devices
Use the Quick Edit tab on the Expanded screen to set
the default idle time for all devices. This time will
apply to any device which is not specifically overrid-
              den as described below.

Set a common idle time for
         a class of devices
Use the Quick Edit tab on the Expanded screen to set
the idle time for all devices in a predefined class of
devices, such as disks. Any of the devices in the
class, that are idle for the time you set, are brought
              to the lowest power setting.

Configure the settings for the Autoshutdown
         feature
The Autoshutdown feature is the most extreme form of
power management. When system is idle for a specified
time period all your work is saved on disk and all
power to the system is turned off. When the system is
powered back on, either manually or by a software
timer, it is reset to the state it was at prior to the
shutdown. Use the Autoshutdown section of the Expanded
screen to enable autoshutdown and to access a popup
window that allows you to view and edit the autoshut-
              down settings.

    EXIT STATUS
The following exit values are returned:

              0 dtpower completed successfully.

              >0 An error occured.

    FILES
         /etc/power.conf
A file used by the power management configuration pro-
gram, pmconfig(1M), to initialize the power management
settings of the system. Any customization done using
dtpower is reflected in this file.

         /etc/default/power
A file used to control which users are permitted to
configure the system's power management and autoshut-
down features using dtpower. The PMCHANGEPERM keyword
controls the power management configuration permis-
sions, and the ASCHANGEPERM keyword controls the
              autoshutdown configuration permissions. Allowed values
              are:

all Any user can change the configuration.

                   - Nobody except a superuser can change the con-
                        figuration.

                   user1, user2, ...
A user in this user list or a superuser can
                        use this command.

                   console-owner
A user who owns the system console device
node or a super-user can change the confi-
                        guration.

The default value are PMCHANGEPERM=console-owner and
              ASCHANGEPERM=console-owner.
