Использовал NNTPCache в своей сети (Башкирский государственный педагогический университет), пришло письмо следующего содержания:

We understand your organization has been actively using our software
'NNTPCache' (a usenet news caching/proxy system), on at least one of
its Unix server machines (i.e bspu.ru).
We are happy to hear that our software is used at your site, however,
our records indicate that you do not have a site-license for it. This
could be for a number of reasons:
1) Your site is a non-profit organization, individual unix
hobbyist, or charity. The institute has had a long
standing sponsorship of such groups and is always happy to
support them by providing license exemptions. Let us know.
2) Our records are incorrect and you have been granted a license
(perhaps under a different name?) If so, we're sorry to
have bothered you -- just drop us note to let us know the
name your license is under and we will update our records
accordingly.
3) Someone else provided you with the machine/software in
question (perhaps your ISP?). In this case please
tell us who we should be speaking to and forward a copy of
this document to them.
4) Your site paid for a license over a year ago, yet is
using a more recent version of the software, without paying
the appropriate upgrade fee.
5) You haven't paid for the software yet, but were just about to.
If you are in these last two categories and have used the software
then your organization must submit an NNTPCache licensing application
immediately. Your organization can't simply stop using the software
now that the bill has arrived and expect this to mean anything more to
us than it would to the phone company. While we would like to help
your organization become another satisfied licensee, unlicensed and/or
illegal use of the NNTPCache server software is of course actionable.

Вот вопрос как теперь быть, чем это грозит если просто их послать, и разве их ПО не свободно распространяемое? Где бы взять тогда News-прокси.... Чтоб без всякой такой фигни было :((
