Поставил FreeBSD 4.8 на VMWare 4.0.5-6030 (под Вин2000) и обнаружил, что не запускаются Иксы. OpenBSD 3.4, NetBSD 1.6.1 - тоже самое, система работает, а иксы не запускаются. Поставил Linux RedHat 8.0 - установка прошла в текстовом режиме (хотя указал графический), но после инсталляции система что-то увидела не то, пару раз сама запустила какую-то экранную утилиту и Х запустились! На *БСД - ни в какую :-( Беда ещё в том, что ВМВарь устройства воспринимает иначе, чем они есть на самом деле, т.е. путает модели и типы. Интересно, что когда на Фре запускаешь xf86conf, то работает twm на карточке vmware на шине PCI:0:15:0. Но в XF86Config'e шина определена как PCI:1:0:0. В "реале" видеокарта - SiS 630, монитор Самтрон 77/76Е. Для примера привожу работающий конфиг Линукса:
